Introduction

Welcome aboard,

Last year, I made a tough decision: to take a break from a full-time senior IT executive role at a fantastic global company. It was a leap of faith to pursue personal dreams, the main one being to cross the Atlantic Ocean sailing as a crew member of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. 

I'll admit, this decision brought on quite a few moments of self-doubt. What would be the impact on my career? Is it the right time? Would this investment of time and money truly be worth it? However, as I completed the intense Clipper Race training levels, I started to realise the incredible value of this experience: the lessons in leadership, collaboration, and people management; the stories and insights from the Skippers (our commanders and instructors); the respect and appreciation for nature; and letting go of the luxuries of modern life.

I've found many parallels between becoming an ocean racing sailor and leading in the corporate world.

Between Office & Ocean is where I'll be sharing this journey. Here, you'll find stories from the sea combined with practical leadership insights from my executive career. It's about pushing boundaries, teamwork, personal growth, and proving that great achievements are within everyone's reach, no matter your background, age, gender, or education.

The first published episodes cover my preparation for the Clipper Race and touch on topics like safety, continuous learning, teamwork, and adaptability. After the race, which kicks off on August 31st, I'll be publishing more episodes, bringing you the full experience from across 6,250 nautical miles of the Atlantic Ocean, between England and Uruguay.
